Book Review: “The Race†by Dave Shields
“The Race: A Novel of Grit, Tactics, and the Tour de France“The Race: Novel of Grit, Tactics, and the Tour de France†by Dave Shields
The book takes place in the middle of the Tour de France but this book is more than just a cycling story. It is about the will to overcome, the human drive to win, and the sheer joy of the bike.
I can strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves the sport of cycling, sport in general, or just a great read. I could not put this book down from the moment I picked it up. I am a slow reader and still I finished this book in one weekend… losing some sleep along the way.
I was drawn into the story from the first page. Like all good adventures, this book is full suspense. This is one great read. I am a major fan of Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt books, and like Clive Cussler, Dave Shields is able to tell an amazing story. One that keeps getting better with every page.
This story is about facing your fears and overcoming them. Fighting for all your worth, and smiling in the end.
Without question, this is one of the best books I have ever read. Go get yourself a copy to read between rides. You need to recover from those epics rides sometime.
Oh, and check out Dave Shields’ website, too.
How can you pass up a book that Levi Leipheimer says: “Reads like the story of my life.”
