Rumor Mill: Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team to be???????

discovery nike pro cycling teamIn the never ending quest to be the first to break major cycling news we at Bicycle .net are going to start a rumor.

Who is going to take over from Discovery Channel as sponsor?

It is based on nothing but gut instinct. It sure could be true. Just think about it…… What company could drop 20 million plus per year on a sports team without denting its $15B value, and already has an interest in the team. Just look at their jerseys. And is a personal sponsor (a major one at that) of one of the team owners. And considerable gear to be sold.

Well, we would like to announce that NIKE is going to be the next primary sponsor.

Remember you heard it here first if we are correct, and if we are wrong, well, don’t look at us.

OK… look at us. Often. And tell your friends.

  1. You do know Nike is in the process of dropping its cycling division and phasing out its partnership with Trek, right? Probably not a good sign. My choice: Google.

  2. Yes, that might be true, but what better reason to stay in the cycling game than to be involved in the best team in cycling. Any how, like we said, it was just a rumor. Google, sound interesting, but I can’t see the upside for them. Anyone at Google a fan?
