Levi kicks it in stage 5
Solvang, CA. Veloguy spent the day hanging on at the time trials at the Amgen Tour of California. Beautiful day, weather was perfect, light wind for the early riders, wind got stronger, making it more difficult for the lead riders to go off at the end.
Without a question, this stage was a critical linchpin for Levi. To hold his yellow jersey, he had to really kick it today. Jens Voight from CSC has been pushing hard on him. With all the pressure on Levi had to deliver an incredibly fast ride to keep the yellow jersey.
With almost all of the riders going outside the 30 minutes, Jens Voight started 2 minutes before Levi, and finished with the best time at 29 plus minutes. Putting all the pressure on Levi to hold the lead.
Levi lived up to his role as dis team leader, delivering a stellar performance to win the time trial and keep the yellow jersey
Lance Aarmstrong’s presence at this stage was clearly felt. Just having him in your camp had to be motivating Levi and the team.
Crowds were thick, the day was great. Fans from all over the country amped up the energy.
