La La Land… All Talk, No Pedal

Google TrendsAs I was fuming about Villaraigosa’s neglect of my city, I decided to play with the Google Trends tool and look for my home town of Los Angeles vis a vis cycling news.

It was too optimistic to hope for it to appear for LA to appear among the top 10 overall, or even the top 10 for the United States… but Hollywood simply can’t honestly speak for spoking as the last 12 months show the following 10 California burbs leading the state bicycle news peloton.

  1. San Luis Obispo, CA, USA
  2. Santa Barbara, CA, USA
  3. Sacramento, CA, USA
  4. Pleasanton, CA, USA
  5. Santa Clara, CA, USA
  6. Sunnyvale, CA, USA
  7. San Francisco, CA, USA
  8. San Diego, CA, USA
  9. San Jose, CA, USA
  10. Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, USA

Notice there isn’t one town in all of Los Angeles County in those 10.

Come on… can’t we get ONE forward-seeing judge to plop Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Mel Gibson, or Lindsay Lohan on pedals for a year? For once, they might inspire impressionable others… for good. Someone might really benefit. [OK, I didn't type that. That was my evil twin.]

Could Acura, which sponsors the Bike Tour of Los Angeles which precedes the Los Angeles Marathon this coming March, seize the opportunity to spearhead something, ANYTHING?

Or is LA destined to be apathetic like its baseball fans, departing a Dodger game in the 7th inning to beat traffic even during a pennant race?
