Triple grand tour winner Alberto Contador says he is pleased with his recent trip to the United States to work on his time trial position at a San Diego wind tunnel.

Contador, who won the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España within 14 months, said he made some changes to his position, but still has room for improvement.

“I can still cut a little drag by putting my body a little more forward,” said Contador. “These little changes are significant, since it’s clear that the secret to winning a grand tour is a combination of your performance in the mountains and in the time trials.

“The major races can be decided by a few seconds and small benefits may make the difference between winning or losing.”

Contador will ride on the Astana team again next season, riding with American Lance Armstrong, a strong climber and regarded as a time trial specialist.

In September, Contador became the only fifth rider to win at least one edition of each of the three major tours, joining Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault, Italian Felice Gimondi and Belgian Eddy Merckx.
