MADRID, Nov 23, 2008 (AFP) – Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador, winner of this year’s tours of Italy and Spain, Monday underwent surgery on his injured nose, his spokesman said.
“Doctors who operated on him fixed a deviation in his nasal partition,” his spokesman said in a statement.
The 2007 Tour de France winner’s injury resulted from a fall during a race and had given him breathing problems.
The statement said Contador will leave hospital on Tuesday and can join his Astana team in the Canary Islands from November 30.
Contador said Sunday he hoped to be fit to race in the Vuelta a Valencia in Spain in February.
The 25-year-old claimed the Tour of Spain in September to join a select club of riders to have won all three of the sport’s major Tours.
