Loddo wins fifth stage of Tour de Langkawi
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13, 2008 (AFP) - Italy’s Alberto Loddo won the fifth stage of Malaysia’s Tour de Langkawi on Wednesday, but France’s Matthieu Sprick held onto the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
Day five of Asia’s biggest road race started and ended in Southern Johor state, beginning at Johor Bahru and finishing in Bandar Penawar, covering 139.9 kilometres (87 miles).
Tinkoff Credit Systems’ Loddo finished the race in 3 hours 7 minutes and 53 seconds, while Argentina’s Mauro Richeze of Group Navigare was second and Switzerland’s Aurelien Clerc of Bouygues Telecom was third.
However, Bouygues Telecom rider Sprick remains in the overall lead despite finishing in 48th place in the stage.
Stage six on Thursday will take place in central Pahang state and cover 182.8 kilometres.
The Tour de Langkawi ends on Sunday in the capital Kuala Lumpur.
