Carlos Sastre Rumored To Join New Canadian Cervelo Team
Reigning Tour de France champion Carlos Sastre could join new Canadian team Cervelo after the Tour of Spain, according to a source close to the CSC team rider on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old is set to sign a two-year deal with the Canadian outfit after being originally linked with new Russian team Katusha, who have snapped up Australian Robbie McEwen, Belgian Gert Steegmans and Italian Filippo Pozzato.
Sastre, a climber, became the third consecutive Spaniard to win the Tour de France in July, after Alberto Contador (2007) and Oscar Pereiro (2006).
American rider Levi Leipheimer of Astana was leading the Tour of Spain after winning Wednesday’s fifth stage, with the event scheduled to finish on September 21.
