The yellow jersey worn by Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre during the last stage of this year’s race has been sold for 15,000 euros at internet auction, Sastre announced Tuesday.
Sastre said some of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Victor Sastre Sports Foundation, founded by and presided over by his father and which helps support children in need.
A percentage of the sale will be donated to non-governmental organization SID-CAN, which helps cancer and AIDS sufferers.
Sastre, 33, won his first Tour de France in July, leaving Australian Cadel Evans the runner-up for the second successive year.
Days after the win Sastre handed over 10,000 euros to a university hospital in Ghent, Belgium where he was visiting young cancer sufferers.
