Cyclist Thor Hushovd Backs Olympic Ceremony Boycott
Cyclist Hushovd backs Olympic ceremony boycott
OSLO, March 28, 2008 (AFP) – Top Norwegian cyclist Thor Hushovd has said he is prepared to boycott the opening ceremony to the Beijing Olympics in August to protest Chinese repression in Tibet.
“We sports people do not have any particular responsibility to take a stance over what is happening in China,” he told the Faedrelandsvennen newspaper.
“But all the same we can have some influence by snubbing the opening ceremony in Beijing. That would be a valid form of protest and I am prepared to do it.
“However, from there to boycotting the Games entirely is a huge step.”

Good–Beijing don’t want u as u r against the spirit of Olympic
which shld not be political.
Do u reckon yr action can make any differnence–No!!We dont know u–what we know now is another anti-chinese & that appply to yr countryman. Dont go to China as u r not welcome here.As far as Tibet I suggest to crack-down HARDER as I reckon what we do we hv people like u against us.
HK Fung is an idiot. If Thor or any other athlete makes a conscientious decision to boycott the opening ceremony or, indeed, the entire Beijing games based on moral concerns over the host country’s appalling behaviour in Tibet, Darfur, Burma, Zimbabwe or, indeed, its repressive policies at home then I fully support their stance. Let freedom ring!
