July 4th, 2007 on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, CA.
July 4th 2007, I was riding south on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, CA. A Honda Accord is looking for a parking space and pulls over to park right in front of me while I am descending at around 25 mph. I head butt his trunk, flip over handle bars and land on my back, elbow, hip. At least the guy felt really bad (the last guy acted like I hit HIM), and the insurance paid for everything (maybe I should have replaced the wheels with a set of zipps).
Nothing was broken but the Pacific Coast Highway has now become the sr (suicide run) and I am still a bit jittery to ride it. The idea of racing in a crit scares me and I am quite certain this collision is at least partly to blame.

I was new to cycling and always wanted to cycle along the Pacific Coast Highway but was worried about traffic and strong head winds. I did a short 20-miles down south starting from Pacifica and was hooked. The only problem was that I still didn’t enjoy all of the traffic on a nice Saturday. I was able to find a great charity ride that’s route went 100-miles down the PCH from Monterey to San Simeon. BestBuddiesChallenge.org – It was a great ride and well supported. I highly recommend riding the PCH. It’s beautiful and really allows you see some of the undeveloped landscapes of California.
Oh yeah, and sorry about your injury
