Leipheimer and Gesink work together and win together Stage 3 Tour of California
Leipheimer and Gesink work together and win together Stage 3 Tour of California

VeloGuy spent the end of the race sitting in the finishing shoot with camera in hand watching for the leaders to cross the finish line. Sitting next to him was a Rabobank team member. The Rabobank team member told our reporter that Leipheimer and Gesink agreed to work together rather than against themselves in their breakaway to the finish.

They agreed that if Gesink worked with Levi to get him to the end and put him in the golden jersey, Levi would let Gesink take the stage win. That’s exactly the way it played out in the end. Levi will take the jersey, and Gesink gets a podium.

Stay tuned as we upgrade this article with pictures and more commentary.

  1. It was pretty obvious that Gesink and Leipheimer worked together as they took turns pulling and Levi backed off at the last second to let the kid have the stage win. Props to both of them for an excellent example of sportsmanship.

  2. The let Levi Ride Campaign is working. Levi is showing his patience for the bigger prize down the road. Excellent show of strength by Gesink. This 21 year old, is to me, the hot ticket for many Grand Tours to come! Follow his bio at http://www.poursuivants.com
