Cavendish Makes Early Move

I can’t help it, but I love a good bunch sprint. That was a great one today, even though I do feel a little sorry for the French champion Nicolas Vogondy, who was caught inside of 25 meters to go.
That finish had all the elements to make a great story with the suspense of whether or not the breakaway would survive — and it was nail-biting until the very last moment. Phil has said all along that this would be a different Tour. Well 2 minutes at 20 kilometers to go should really have been a foregone conclusion of a catch at 5-7 kms to go - wrong!!
Then Mark Cavendish’s lead-out man, George Hincapie, was delayed by a flat tire at 10 kilometres to go. Next minute, he’s back in the pack and doing a monster turn on the front to keep his man “Cav” out of the melee that was forming behind him.
