Product Review: 2XU Thermal Base Layer
With the Fall season fast approaching and the cool weather riding season creeping closer everyday it is time to start talking about long sleeve base layers again. Most of you probably won’t be pulling on the long sleeves for at least a couple of months but if you decide to start your shopping early you can’t do much better than checking out the Thermal Base Layer from 2XU.
On a cold March morning this year I was given the 2XU Thermal Base Layer by Sportsmultipled, the Australian company’s U.S. distributer. 2XU has long been known for their wetsuits and triathlon apparel, but they are starting to make in roads into the cycling world and doing it well. I was told that this base layer was the perfect compliment to the riding conditions here in Southern California, where the temperature from morning to mid-day often varies by as much as 20 or 30 degrees. I was told that no arm warmers were needed and not to worry you it’s comfortable when the day heats up.
The next morning the temperature in Solvang was a brisk 49 degrees when I headed out for my early ride, and a few hours later it was creeping into the 70’s and I was as comfortable as can be. The Thermal Base Layer lived up to expectations and I can honestly say that it is the perfect go to garment for anytime in the fall, winter or spring. Base layers are supposed to do three things, wick sweat from the body, provide an extra layer of warmth and be comfortable. The 2XU Thermal Base Layer does all three well, and looks good doing it.
