Rock Racing To Sue Medalist Sports To Get Into Tour of Georgia

It is being reported on VeloNews.com that Michael Ball and his cycling team Rock Racing is going to sue the Tour de Georgia and the organizing company Medalist Sports to be let into the race that starts April 21.

Rock Racing LLC, filed the complaint April 8 asking for an injunction against the race’s owner, the Tour de Georgia Foundation, and Medalist Sports.

The case is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday in a superior court located in Fulton County, Georgia.

Rock Racing spokeswoman Martine Charles stated that the team had an “oral agreement” with Medalist Sports to participate in the race.

“It was revoked at the last minute. We’re pursuing legal alternatives,” she said to VeloNews.

Last month, Medalist’s Jim Birrell was quoted to have said “that Rock Racing was not invited to the race simply because there is not enough room for the team”.

“There are a finite number of slots we’re interested in filling, and it’s hard, there are too many qualified teams to extend invites to, and not enough slots,” Birrell said.

  1. I don’t know if this is the right move for Rock Racing or not. I would be angry if I was Michael Ball but he has obviously not made any friends in the cycling world. IMO he needs to step back and take a look at what is going on around him and realize that throwing money at all of the problems with the team are not going to fix things.
