Lenart, Slovenia: Slovenian ultra-marathon cyclist Marko Baloh set a new world record in 24-hour distance cycling at a horse track in Lenart, Slovenia in early September. Covering 553 miles, he bettered the previous record, set by American Michael Secrest, by more than 18.5 miles.
Baloh completed 928 laps in 24 hours at an average speed of 23 mph, also topping the previous best road mark set by Orlando Borini of Italy.
En route to the 24-hour mark, the Slovenian cyclist broke three other world records – the fastest 100 miles and 200 miles outdoor, and the 12-hour distance (286 miles).
Baloh started his ride September 6 at 2 PM and finished September 7 at 2 PM. The record-breaking ride took place according to the rules and under the supervision of the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association.
“This world record has been on the top of my list of goals for quite a while. Besides winning the Race Across America (RAAM), this must be the most prestigious goal of every ultra-marathon cyclist,” Baloh said .
