Statistics, maths and history all pointed to Cadel Evans winning the Tour de France in the final individual time trial. However history also predicts that the man who leads the Tour at the Alpe d’Huez always runs out the overall winner- and it proved right again this year.
Evans must have been shaken at the first time check when his team manager told him that he had only pulled back a mere eight seconds in 18 kilometres. Nowhere near his required schedule of 2 seconds per every kilometre of the 53 kilometres test.
