Ricco Shows He’s Ready

We expected a lot out of the first mountaintop finish of the Tour at Super-Besse and the day did not let us down. Ricardo Ricco proved that his successes in the Giro d’Italia were not luck and, despite a bad time trial, proved that he is ready to do battle in this year’s Tour.

It was a bit sad for Stefan Schumacher who crashed inside the last kilometer, however. When the race concludes with a mountaintop finish, the “same time as the winner” rule does not count. The German was given the exact time that he crossed the line, after his crash, therefore losing the overall lead.
