Surprise Victory for JJ Haedo On Stage Two At The Tour de Georgia
[22.04 22:02] Juan José Haedo surprised in second stage of Tour de Georgia, when the slightly injured Argentinean won the 188-kilometer stage from Statesboro to Augusta after a bunch sprint.
Haedo has had some problems with his hand after breaking it a month ago, which is why his victory was so unexpected.
“We’d been discussing that we’d wait and see if he was feeling on form for Sunday’s final stage because it’s a bit shorter and well suited for him. But towards the end today he said that he was feeling good and wanted to give it a go anyway,” explained Team CSC sports director Dan Frost after the stage.
“Michael Blaudzun attacked on the hill during the eight-kilometer laps in Augusta and he wasn’t caught until three or four kilometer before the finish. So we had a few guys up front which definitely helped JJ. It seemed like he might also have benefited from the fact that there was no pressure on him,” added Frost and concluded:
“Now that we’ve done well so early in the race we’re able to take the rest as it comes really.”
