Team CSC Saxo Bank Has 15 Riders at The Beijing Olympics

Over the coming weeks the eyes of the entire sports world will be on Beijing, China, where the 2008 Olympic Games are taking place. This is of course also the case for the world of cycling and Team CSC Saxo Bank is strongly represented with all of 15 riders.

The road race will be taking place already on the very first Olympic competition day – Saturday August ninth and the time trial will be take place August 13th.

In the time trial Team CSC Saxo Bank is represented by three riders: Fabian Cancellara for Switzerland and Swedish duo Marcus Ljungqvist and Gustav Larsson. As double World Champion Cancellara is of course among the favorites in his discipline, but Larsson also demonstrated during Tour of Denmark that he could be a possible wild card.

“I believe that I have a good chance. In the time trial during Tour of Denmark I showed that I’ve got my aero dynamics in check again after a few problems during Sachsen Tour-International. I’m totally prepared and my form is also as it should be, so I’m really hoping to bring home a medal,” said Larsson.

The three time trial riders are also in the road race where there are 14 Team CSC Saxo Bank riders participating. Besides the three they are: Alexandr Kolobnev for Russia, the Schleck brothers for Luxembourg, Spanish Tour-winner Carlos Sastre, Danish Chris Anker Sørensen and Nicki Sørensen, German Jens Voigt, Argentinean Juan José Haedo, Dutch Karsten Kroon, Norwegian Kurt-Asle Arvesen and former Olympic medal winner on track Stuart O’Grady.

Finally Team CSC Saxo Bank has a single representative on track in the shape of Bradley McGee, who will be doing the 4-kilometer team pursuit cycling and possibly also individual pursuit.

“There was talk of Stuart taking part on the track as well but they decided against it so Bradley is the only one of our guys in this discipline,” says Team CSC Saxo Bank’s sports director Scott Sunderland.

Of course we should also keep a close eye on future Team CSC Saxo Bank rider Jakob Fuglsang in the mountain bike discipline.
