The TOSHIBA-Santo squad headed to South Florida to race in the highly anticipated Florida Cup weekend sponsored by Herbalife. This weekend was marked early on the racing schedule as a priority for the team due to its sponsor importance and hometown crowd enthusiasm.

The team did not disappoint.

Vista View Park, Davie, Florida:
In an attack from the start of the race, Cuban superstar Frank Travieso jumped out to a solo lead on the peloton that at its peak was nearly 2 minutes. Midway through the ninety-minute race, Travieso was joined by his teammate and training partner Yosvany Falcon, and they were not to be seen by the pack again. Counter attacks by John Durango and Ivan Franco were next on the menu, and they managed to stay clear with one companion Shane Braley (Cycle Science) in tow. The race featured one of Florida’s toughest courses at Vista View park in Davie with several thousand feet of climbing by the day’s end. In a total team effort the top four places of the podium were dominated by the TOSHIBA-Santo presented by Herbalife strongmen.

Rosewood Circuit, Miami Lakes, Florida:
Sunday’s event was held at the hallowed Rosewood course in Miami Lakes. The race was fast and furious from the gun with every team trying to exact revenge from Saturday’s defeat.

The field of nearly 150 starters was aggressive and saw the peloton lined up in single file for the open segments of the race. After 20 minutes of racing a group of 16 riders emerged in front of the group, and it look like that was going to be how the race was to be decided. All of the powerful teams were present, TOSHIBA-Santo presented by Herbalife, Blue Star, Prime Alliance, and Herbalife/Bike America all were contented to push the pace in the break and let those cards play out. Constant surging from the chasing field got the breakaway in sight, but that was as close as they came to catching them with the TOSHIBA team marking the front of the race, happy with the selection in the breakaway.

Showing textbook team racing tactics, Victor Moreno and Alejandro Bello launched attacks in the final few laps that kept the rest of the teams chasing to close the gaps which left the dirty work for the remaining team members, Ivan “the Legend” Franco, John “the Columbian Sensation” Durango, and the U23 National Champion Keith Norris. In the mad dash to the line, in front of the racing savvy Rosewood fans, it was Durango and Norris handily defeating Blue Star’s Ricardo Hernandez.
