Super-Besse, as we thought it would, provided to be a thrilling stage full of attacks from the favorite in the GC battle.The best moments of the Tour have come courtesy of the battle for the most coveted jersey in all of sports, the maillot jaune.

Kim Kirchen, took advantage perhaps of a moment of inattention by Stefan Schumacher, who overlapped wheels with his teammate and crashed rather awkwardly.

Schumacher Yields Yellow

Around every corner of this year’s Tour there seems to be an unexpected turn, and the crash by Stefan Schumacher in the closing meters of the stage when it ended at Super-Besse meant the yellow jersey passed over to Luxembourg’s Kim Kirchen.

The irony was that Schumacher fell after touching the back wheel of Kirchen as they rode near the barriers. I think Kirchen moved in slightly as Franck Schleck changed his position — and down went the yellow leader.
