Puy Mary Climb Was the Difference

Stage 7 would have been called a transitional stage a couple of years ago, but today it was a serious race. Once again the hammer was down from the gun and this was because of the presence of David Millar in the early breakaway. Led by George Hincapie, Team Columbia saw this and charged after him with such pressure that 30 riders moved clear.
When CSC looked back and saw the split, they decided to lend a hand as well and kept up the pace. Once they caught the Millar group, they just kept going up for another hour of racing and putting serious pressure on the main pack. Once the groups rejoined, the pace settled down for the two big climbs and another small group escaped.
