RZESZOW, Poland, Aug 4, 2009 (AFP) – Norwegian ace Edvald Boasson Hagen of the Columbia team won the fourth stage of the Tour of Poland on Wednesday after outshining teammate Andre Greipel in a sprint finish.

Greipel, wearing the race leader’s jersey, finished second on the 239.7 km stage from Naleczow to Rzeszow but was later disqualified by race officials after an incident with another rider, believed to be Australia’s Allan Davis.

It meant Belgian Jurgen Roelandts and Italy’s Danilo Napolitano were credited with second and third place finishes meaning Roelandts, of the Silence team, is the new race leader.

Roelandts now leads Slovakian Borut Boziuc, and a handful of other riders including Greipel, by two seconds with the top 136 riders within a minute of Roelandts.

The 22-year-old Boasson Hagen admitted his victory had been unexpected.

“I tried to do the lead-out for Andre but things got a bit stressful in the last corner which was close to the finish,” Boasson Hagen said.

“We almost crashed and I didn’t know afterwards if Andre was behind me or not, so I kept going.

“Finally, though, I got the win and it all worked out for the best.”

The race finishes on Saturday with a 136.5km ride from Rabka Zdroj to Krakow.
