Carlos Sastre Confirms He Will Race The Giro
Spaniard Carlos Sastre, the winner of the 2008 Tour de France, confirmed Saturday he will compete in next year’s Giro d’Italia.
The 2010 edition of the Giro d’Italia gets underway on May 8, starting in Amsterdam.
“After analyzing the routes of the three big Tours – Italy, France and Spain – and discussed things with the team sporting director I’ve decided to take part in the Giro,” said the Cervelo rider.
The Spaniard won two prestigious stages of last year’s Tour of Italy – Monte Petrano and Vesuvio – and finished fourth overall.
“It’s a real opportunity,” said the climber, adding that the 2010 route was “very attractive” for a rider like him.
Sastre is also hoping to compete in the Tour of Catalunya from March 22-28 and the classics Amstel Gold Race and Liege-Bastogne-Liege in April but has not yet decided on his calendar after the Tour of Italy.
