There has been a rumor flying around that the Giro could have a USA start in 2011 as is being reported in the La Gazzetta dello Sport. The director of the Giro, Angelo Zomegnan was quoted in La Gazzetta that the cities of New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. are interested in hosting the opening stage in 2011.

So far the Giro has never started outside of Europe due to the travel difficulties and time difference.
