Cunego Wins Tour of Spain Eighth Stage, Evans Takes Golden Jersey

Italy’s Damiano Cunego won the eighth stage of the Tour of Spain on Sunday, the first to be held in the mountains this year, as Australia’s Cadel Evans took the overall lead.

The 27-year-old sprinted ahead of France’s David Moncoutie in the final kilometer of the 204.7-kilometer (127-mile) ride between Alzira and Aitana that was staged in rainy and foggy conditions.

Evans meanwhile is just ahead of the two other favorites to win the Tour of Spain, Spanish riders Alejandro Valverde and Samuel Sanchez, after Sunday’s stage.
