Nick Nuyens Won Grand Prix de Wallonie

Sports director Dan Frost, once again was the man behind the riders today as Team Saxo Bank were to participate in the Belgian one-day race, Grand Prix de Wallonie with Chris Anker Sørensen, Dominic Klemme, Matthew Goss, Jurgen van Goolen, Anders Lund, Lasse Bøchman, Frank Høj and Andre Steensen.

The race is 203 kilometers and contains a lot of tough and steep hills which usually drains the strength out of the legs of the international cycling field. In the 2008-edition of the race, Team Saxo Bank’s Alexander Kolobnev worked his way to third place in the race.

In this year’s edition the race ended in a messy bunch sprint where Nick Nuyens (Rabobank) was the fastest rider in front of Allan Davis (Quick Step) and Roy Sentjens 8Silence-Lotto).

Team Saxo Bank’s young Anders Lund finished on 12th place:

“As we approached the end of the race we met up with a series of small climbs. On the way down from one of those the road suddenly became narrow, and Frank was caught on the side of the field and he crashed on the curb taking several riders with him. Fortunately, he only suffered superficial scratches. Miraculously, I was able to ride straight through the falling riders. On the climbs, Chris was distinctively active while I wanted to save energy for the finale, which was a pretty messy affair. But I am happy with the outcome”, concluded Anders Lund after the race.
