Italy’s Ivan Basso has pulled out of the Dauphine Libere with a fever, his Liquigas team announced Thursday.

Basso, who finished Thursday’s grueling stage up Mont Ventoux in 35th position for a 30th spot in the overall standings, has targeted September’s Tour of Spain as his goal in the second part of the season.
