Melbourne Chosen For 2012 Track World Championship

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 18, 2009 (AFP) – The 2012 world track cycling championships will take place in Melbourne, Australia, official sources announced here on Thursday.

Melbourne, which previously hosted the event in 2004, was chosen during a meeting of the International Cycling Union’s (UCI) steering committee here.

The Australian city is already scheduled to host the world road cycling championship in 2010.

The steering committee also awarded the 2012 BMX world championships to the English city of Birmingham.
