Roux Wins 17th Stage of Tour of Spain

MADRID, Sept 16, 2009 (AFP) – French rider Anthony Roux won on Wednesday the 17th stage of the Tour of Spain while Spain’s Alejandro Valverde of Spain held on to the overall leader’s yellow jersey.

Roux, riding for Francaise des Jeux, covered the 193.6-kilometer route from Ciudad Real to Talavera de la Reina in 4hours, 28 minutes, 14 seconds.

His fellow countryman William Bonnet finished second and triple stage winner Andre Greipel of Germany was third. Both were clocked with the same time as Roux.

The Tour of Spain ends on Sunday in Madrid with Valverde bidding to win his first major Tour.
