Russian Cycling Federation Takes Hard Line On Doping

The Russian cycling federation has suspended three cyclists for using banned substances, local media reported on Monday.

Ilnur Zakarin, 19, who won the junior time-trial road race at the 2007 European championship, and 22-year-old Yekaterina Melnikova were both handed a two-year ban for using the performance-enhancing anabolic agent metandienon.

Meanwhile, mountainbike racer Kirill Bozhenko, 22, was banned for one year after he tested positive for banned stimulant carphedon.
