Tour Down Under Dates Set For 2010
SYDNEY, Feb 19, 2009 (AFP) – Australia’s Tour Down Under next year will take place from January 17 to 24, organisers said Thursday.
South Australian Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith announced the dates after they were agreed at a meeting of the UCI ProTour Council in Switzerland.
“Lance Armstrong’s comeback at this year’s Tour Down Under attracted a worldwide audience to the event and helped to raise the profile of his important global cancer campaign,” Lomax-Smith said.
The Tour Down Under will be the first race of the UCI world calendar in 2010.
Australian sprinter Allan Davis won this year’s Tour, while American Lance Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France winner who used the race as his comeback after a three-and-a-half year hiatus from the sport, came in 29th overall, 49secs behind the winner Davis.
