TV Coverage of Cycling Begins Monday, April 6

LOS ANGELES – APRIL 2, 2009 – Defending champion Alberto Contador, Olympic gold medalist Samuel Sanchez and Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre, along with the world’s best climbers, will descend on Basque country on April 6 – 11, for the 2009 Tour of the Basque Country. Universal Sports and the International Cycling Union (UCI) present coverage of the six-stage UCI Pro-tour event.

The Vuelta Ciclista al País Vasco takes place in the cultural region of Basque, shared between France and Spain. The event is traditionally a mountainous stage, featuring steep climbs with little to no flat stages. Last year, Spanish rider and former Tour de France winner Alberto Contador won both the first stage and the final individual time trial to win the event.

COVERAGE ON UNIVERSAL SPORTS: Universal Sports, available in 45 million homes, will present same-day coverage of the Tour of the Basque Country.
