Voigt Set To Race In USA After Horrorific Crash
BERLIN, Aug 27, 2009 (AFP) – Just seven weeks after his horror crash on the Tour de France, Germany’s Jens Voigt will ride at next month’s Tour of Missouri as a co-captain of Saxo Bank, it was announced Thursday.
“It is not like the Tour,” said Voigt, who smashed his cheekbone on the 16th stage of the Tour de France last month in the high-speed crash which left him in hospital also with a broken jaw and concussion.
“In America, the roads are very wide and there is much more space to ride.”
The 37-year-old said he is using the race to get his rhythm and confidence back and will co-captain the team alongside Sweden’s Gustav Erik Larsson for the Missouri event which runs from September 7-13.
