Anton Wins Fourth Stage of Tour of Spain

VALDEPENAS DE JAEN, Spain, Aug 31, 2010 (AFP) – Spanish rider Igor Anton won the fourth stage of the Tour of Spain on Tuesday, a 183.8-kilometer ride from Malaga to here, while Belgium’s Philippe Gilbert retained the overall lead.

Anton, who rides for Euskatel, launched an attack in the final metres of the stage to cross the finish line just one second ahead of Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali of Liquigas.

Gilbert of Omega Pharma took the overall lead of the 65th edition of the Vuelta on Monday after he sprinted alone to the finish line the third stage of the race, a 157.3-kilometre ride from Marbella to Malaga.

The Vuelta continues on Wednesday with the 198.8-kilometre stage from Guadix to Lorca in southwestern Spain.
