Tirreno-Adriatico, Stage 6: Evans Climbs Into Third
Whether it was riding in a break (Marcus Burghardt) or providing a strong lead-out to the finish (Alessandro Ballan), solid team tactics helped the BMC Racing Team move world champion Cadel Evans into the top three Monday at Tirreno-Adriatico.

‘Team Functioning Well’
While Mikhail Ignatiev (Katusha) was winning the penultimate stage, Evans sprinted wheel-to-wheel with Stefano Garzelli (Acqua E Sapone) the final 100 meters. The photo finish gave the Italian the edge. But the time bonus for third moved Evans into third, 12 seconds behind race leader Michele Scarponi (Androni Giocattoli). “During the whole week, our team has been functioning well,” BMC Racing Team Director Sportif John Lelangue said. “They have proven that they can manage a race around a leader.”
