The rumors are flying that Fabian Cancellara is for sale. Well at least his contract is. The rumors that we have been hearing are putting the price tag to buy out the last year of Cancellara’s contract at 3 million Euros. This price seems to suggest that Saxo Bank team manager Bjarne Riis is not really serious about parting with the super star rider, but then again for that amount of money, wouldn’t you think about it.
When previously asked about letting Cancellara out of his 2011 contract he stated “Try to listen, he has a contract. And all those rumors and speculations? I cannot comment on them.”
But on the personal website of the hotly desired rider, Cancellara indicated that the team trade (purchase) idea is definitely not out of the question just yet.
??”I think often about next season. It’s an open secret, that other teams are talking to me. I have to say, there are some exciting ideas to go along with these offers, and also some interesting perspectives for the future – after I retire.”
“Because I communicate openly with Bjarne Riis, we’ve naturally spoken about this situation. It makes me happy that Bjarne is coming to the Vuelta, and then we can talk about the new offers. So I hope to see how my form comes along at the Vuelta and see where I will ride next season.”
But for now it would seem that Cancellara is going no where for 2011, but if a team wants him bad enough all they have to do is write a very large check.
