Contador Keeps Lead At Paris-Nice As Sagan Nabs Stage

AIX EN PROVENCE, France, March 12, 2010 (AFP) – Liquigas racer Peter Sagan won the fifth stage of the Paris-Nice race on Friday, a 157km ride from Pernes-les-Fontaines to Aix-en-Provence, as the 20-year-old notched his second success of the week.

Astana star Alberto Contador retained the leader’s yellow jersey after Sagan attacked two kilometres from the line to edge out Italian Mirco Lorenzetto by two seconds.

“I like to attack on the final hill,” said Sagan, a former all terrain junior champion who also won the third stage to Aurillac and is putting Slovakian cycling on the map.

“After my first stage win three television crews went to my house to interview my parents,” he laughed.

In the new overall classification, reigning Tour de France champion Contador is 20 seconds ahead of Alejandro Valverde, who picked up 4sec on the leader with bonus points after he placed third on the day.
