CORBA’s Fat Tire Fest and 23rd Annual Fundraiser Returns to Castaic Lake and Expects Record Attendance.
The Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association today announced its annual fundraiser – The Fat Tire Fest – has been scheduled for Sunday October 17, 2010 at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area in Southern California.
CORBA is proud once again to present a fun-filled day of mountain bike action and activities for families and riders of all ages and skill levels in order to raise funding and awareness for trail access in the Los Angeles area. Last year’s event attracted industry heavyweights such as Giant, Specialized, Cannondale and Trek and saw its attendance grow to over 500, making it the largest event of its kind in Southern California.
The Fat Tire Fest is an all-day event geared for the entire family. Featuring a huge raffle – that includes bikes, frames and gear, activities for all levels and ages of riders, catered lunch and more, this year’s Festival aims to be the biggest ever. Events range from the classic Poker Ride to a Hill Climb competition, Bike Limbo and Wheelie contests, Skills Clinic and for the first time a cyclo-cross race produced by Back on Track Productions. There will also be a special area for kids to test their skills, guided rides and demo bikes featuring some of the industry’s top bicycles.
“Last year, was a special year due to the attendance and guest pro riders,” says Fat Tire Fest coordinator Louisa Bonnie. “Sid Taberlay, Brian Lopes and Ned Overend all shuffled their schedules to attend, there were hundreds of bikes to demo and more prizes for the raffle than ever.” Mark Langton, CORBA’s Board President adds “It was great to see so much of the industry and local riders turn out to support trail access. As an all-volunteer organization, we can’t survive without their support.”
Overend said it was important for riders to practice trail etiquette and to be responsible, philosophies he said CORBA promotes. “You’ve got to have trails to ride on,” Overend said. “That’s the key to the whole industry.”
CORBA is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that has been advocating for trail access in Los Angeles and its surrounding area for 22 years. In addition to the Fat Tire Fest, CORBA sponsors Youth Adventures, a mountain bike program for inner-city at-risk youth from ages 8-17, trail work events, free mountain bike skills classes for all ages and recreational rides.
