On Friday German cyclist Matthias Kessler was put into an induced coma in a hospital in the Spanish island of Majorca. He was admitted to the hospital after suffering a head injury during a fall, but his life is not in danger, the hospital said.
The 30-year-old suffered the fall on Wednesday after a cat ran into his bicycle during a training ride in Mallorca with fellow German rider Andreas Kloden.
“Matthias Kessler suffered a severe cranial trauma and is in the intensive care unit in an induced coma,” a spokesman for the Son Dureta hospital in the Majorcan capital of Palma said.
The rider is in “serious condition” but “his life is not in danger,” he told Bicycle.net.
Kessler positive for testosterone in 2007 while riding for Astana and his two-year suspension expired in July 2009.
