Lance Armstrong and Mark Cavendish will star at the Legends’ Night Dinner during the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under.
Premier Mike Rann today announced that the two cycling greats have confirmed their attendance at the dinner which will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Saturday 22 January 2011.
“The Legends’ Night Dinner will also act as a farewell of sorts for Lance Armstrong as he competes in his last professional race on international soil,” Mr Rann said
“The seven-time Tour de France winner will be interviewed on stage by cycling commentators Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen about his impending retirement from professional cycling.”
Another cycling great to be interviewed on stage at the dinner is Mark Cavendish, who is competing for the first time in Adelaide. The race will see him competing head-to-head for the first time against former team-mate and sprint rival André Greipel.
“The Legends’ Night Dinner is a great opportunity for cycling fans to rub shoulders with their heroes and other cycling champions,” Mr Rann says.
“Each year, cycling fans from Australia and overseas travel to South Australia to be part of the Santos Tour Down Under and participate in associated events such as the Legends’ Night Dinner.
“The dinner was a sell-out in 2010 and tickets are expected to sell out fast as people snap up the opportunity to see Armstrong and Cavendish up close.”
Tickets to the Legends’ Night Dinner cost $250 and can be purchased from the Santos Tour Down Under website – www.tourdownunder.com.au.
