Injured German returns to racing in Dutch one-day Classic

Dortmund, 15. April 2010. Team MILRAM can look forward to the return of Fabian Wegmann this coming Sunday at the Amstel Gold Race (April 18 / UCI ProTour). He is returning to racing at the Dutch one-day Classic after breaking his collarbone and a five-week pause. In addition to Wegmann, Christian Henn, who will serve as MILRAM’s Directeur Sportif on the 258 kilometers from Maastricht to Valkenberg, will look to Johannes Fröhlinger, Christian Knees, Dominik Roels, Roy Sentjens, Niki Terpstra, Paul Voß and Peter Wrolich.

„In the last few days I have been able to train a lot and very intensely, and haven’t had any pain for a while,“ said MILRAM’s Fabian Wegmann. He was involved in a crash on March 12 in the third stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. „Of course it is very difficult to say how I will be able to perform in the race. At any rate I am very satisfied with my condition in training, and we will have to wait and see how it goes on Sunday.“

„The Amstel Gold Race is Fabian’s first race back after his injury. Every pro rider comes back differently to racing after such a pause, so it is difficult to predict Fabian Wegmann’s chances on Sunday,“ explained Christian Henn, Team MILRAM Directeur Sportif. „Basically, we will have a strong team at the start on Sunday, with which we will be able to set accents in the race.“

The 45th edition of the Amstel Gold Race is also the opener of the „Ardennes triple,“ which continues with one-day races Fleche Wallonne on April 21 and Liege-Bastogne-Liege (April 25). Last year Wegmann had similar bad luck in his preparations for his first big season highlight. Weakened by a bout of the flu, the allrounder finished only 68th. Best MILRAM rider was a strong Christian Knees, who finished a respectable 11th.
