Final Stage Set To Determine Winner
Final Stage Set To Determine Winner

Los Angeles, USA – A testing individual time trial in down town LA has failed to clearly establish the eventual winner of the 2010 Amgen Tour of California. Rather the scene has been set for Stage 8 to be the decisive final day of this years race.

Tony Martin (Columbia HTC) was the only rider to break the 42 minute barrier, current race leader Michael Rogers was second at 42.02 to retain and extend his overall yellow jersey margin. Phil Zajicek rode a solid time trial with a time of 44.14 to consolidate his position at the head of the race.

Unfortunately for the Fly V Australia, the flat, windy, and bumpy course was not a good fit for Phil’s talents, favoring instead the strong roulers and not the featherweight climbers such as Phil. This was reflected in the overall results, with noted time trial specialists filling the top places. The course would have been perfect for Fly V Australia’s time trial specialist Ben Day, who crashed out of yesterday’s stage – adding further to his frustration and disappointment.

The race will now come down to tomorrow’s punishing Agoura Hills stage 8, where it is expected that the race leaders with lay it all down over the 135km on a World Championship style course. Fly V Australia is looking forward to the stage with the course expected to suit the team’s riders with Phil Zajicek excited by the prospect of lighting some fireworks and taking it to the race favorites.
