Following Gila, Abbott Earns Women’s NRC Lead

The fourth contest on the 2010 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC), the SRAM Tour of the Gila went off in Silver City, N.M. last week. After taking wins in stage one both Levi Leipheimer (Santa Rosa, Calif./Team Mellow Johnny’s) and Mara Abbott (Boulder, Colo./Peanut Butter & Co Twenty 12) held on to early GC leads to win the overall titles.

Following the fourth National Racing Calendar event Australian Benjamin Day (Fly V Australia) retained a narrow lead in the men’s overall standings. On the women’s side however Abbott used her victory at Gila to take over the early season NRC lead. The Fly V Australia squad continues to hold a strong lead in the men’s team standings meanwhile Team Vera Bradley Foundation used a balanced attack to earn the women’s lead.

After four of 25 events, the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar standings are as follows:
