San Luis Obispo, CA – 7th May 2010 – A hotly disputed bunch sprint win saw HTC-Columbia’s Ina-Yoko Teutenberg take the final overall victory in the Tour of Chongming Island in China on Friday.
Teutenberg outpaced Kirsten Wild in the last stage, a 79.2 kilometre loop starting and finishing in the town of Chongming, to take the day’s victory and simultaneously claim the win in the three-day race.
“I won by centimetres, it was so close I actually thought I hadn’t got it,” the HTC-Columbia rider said afterwards.
“Normally you can tell when you’ve won, but this time we had to wait until it was confirmed.
“The whole stage was a tough battle, it was so flat it was hard to make any kind of difference. Kirsten got an intermediate sprint, and I got another, so we were tied on time. When I went for it at the end, she went for it too and it was a drag race right to the finish.”
After bringing her total of season wins to 11, Teutenberg is now looking forward to Sunday’s World Cup race in Chongming.
“It’s going to be different, we’ve got a 140 kilometre race including ten kilometres over a bridge and ten kilometres back. But we’ve got a good team here, and we’ll see what we can do.”
