LIEGE (Belgium), April 23, 2010 – Alberto Contador, who is scheduled to attack the cobblestones at the next Tour de France, said he was not losing sleep worrying about the cobblestone sections in his attempt to win his third Yellow Jersey.
“This stage is much talk,” said the Spaniard Friday, winner of the Tour de France two other times. “This will be complicated, difficult, with much tension. But do not worry, I do not lose sleep thinking about it!”
On 6 July, the Tour will borrow four cobbled Paris-Roubaix before joining Arenberg (North).
“I will use my presence here to see the pavement and test equipment,” added the Spaniard, who was is racing the Dean of the classics (Liege-Bastogne-Liege) which takes place Sunday.
For equipment, Astana has equipped Contador with the same manufacturer of bicycles (Specialized), as the triumphant team of Saxo Bank who has had a recent win at Paris-Roubaix with Fabian Cancellara, who is the teammate Andy Schleck of Luxembourg, who came in second in the 2009 Tour .
Asked about the possibility of Cancellara taking the Schleck brothers under his wing on the cobbled sections, Contador joked: “Cancellara shoulders will need to pick up three riders, which includes me under his wing.”
