Australian Jack Bobridge (Garmin) won the fifth stage of the Eneco Tour du Benelux Sunday in Sittard in the Netherlands, where he beat by a few seconds the Spaniard Ruben Perez Moreno and Belgian Thomas De Gendt.
The German Tony Martin (HTC-Columbia) retained the leader’s jersey.
“The ultimate success is closer. My teammates have mastered the perfect race, with calm, despite the many attacks,” Martin welcomed.
Bobridge, 21, was part of a breakaway of eight men who had taken the advantage on the hilly profile of stage 5 to take the win.
“I’m still in a learning phase. I know little about the events in Belgium and the Netherlands, and have suffered greatly since the start of the race. Intrude is almost unexpected. This is the greatest achievement of my early career, “said the Australian.
