Jens Voigt’s Showing Top Form
Jens Voigt’s Showing Top Form

Seventh and last stage of Paris-Nice was a stretch of only 119 kilometers in and around Nice on the French Riviera. Before today’s stage, Team Saxo Bank’s Jens Voigt was sixth overall achieved by raw power and experience throughout the race.

The German used these two qualities on today’s course a he was in the very front of the race with all the rest of the favorites and on the last kilometer he made an attempt to break clear of the group. Unfortunately, he was not able to catch Amael Moinard (Cofidis) and Thomas Voeckler (BBox Bouygues Telecom) only three seconds before the chasing Voigt-group.

Amael Moinard (Cofidis) took the stage and Alberto Contador won the race overall. But Team Saxo Bank’s Jens Voigt demonstrated that he in all aspects is back among the best riders in the world by taking sixth place overall only half a minute behind the Astana-rider. On the prologue he beat everyone of the other favorites and was only denied the stage victory by Lars Boom (Rabobank).

A lot of critics did not give Jens Voigt much hope of coming back from his terrible crash during last year’s Tour de France but with this performance, he showed the whole world that he is back among the very best riders in the peloton.
