Juan José Haedo Third In Qatar For Saxo Bank

[12.02 13:03] Sixth and final stage of Tour of Qatar ended with six laps on a circuit of seven kilometers. Four escapees had a lead of one minute with eleven kilometers to go. Team Saxo Bank’s Frank Høj and Dominik Klemme played an important role breaking the wind and closing the gap in the front of the peloton.

With four kilometers to go, the breakaway was inhaled and the peloton was stretched out as several teams wanted to lead their sprinter to the finish. The Danish national champion, Matti Breschel launched an attack with a few hundred meters to go with teammate, Juan José Haedo on his wheel and Team Saxo Bank’s Argentinean took third place. Francesco Chicchi took the stage with a powerful finish.

“We had a game plan and the guys stuck to it. There was a lot of wind but our riders managed to stay in a good position for the finish. Matti timed his lead-out for Haedo perfectly and he was very close of completing a perfect day for us. Now, we are looking forward to be doing the Tour of Oman starting this Sunday”, says sports director Bradley McGee.

And Team Saxo Bank’s Danish national champion, Matti Breschel was happy about the outcome as well:

”The stage developed at lot like the other stages and as usual we had a plan. When we have more than one sprinter in the line-up we make sure to communicate during the stage to know who is feeling stronger so we can help him to the finish. To me personally, the most important objective is to gain a lot of race kilometers by helping my teammates before the Spring classics and it is not bad at all to be able to do so in warm and sunny conditions”, says the Danish national champion, Matti Breschel after the last stage of Tour of Qatar.

He and the rest of the team in Qatar are now going to race Tour of Oman.
